I gave Sydney and Roscoe each a half a cookie. I turned my back and I guess Sydney finished her's in one swallow while Roscoe took his to go make it last. Sydney tried to take it from him and the next thing I knew there was a lot of crying...then "wetness"...which I realized was blood.
We rushed to the animal hospital and waited for what seemed like forever for the Vet to get off the phone only to tell us, She gave him pain meds and we need to get to a specialist in North Andover or Boston.
We drove to the North Andover one, since they were the ones that saved Norman a few years ago.
The moment when the vet came out and said "He will never see out of that eye again. He is also going to loose it." was the last thing that I really remember. I asked the same questions over and over after that because I could not remember her answers. I just sat there holding him as he was shaking and panting.....or was that me....
We got him home and the days to follow were meals in bed, tricking him to take all his different pills and working the Mammy Magical Blankets in his special bed. I really didn't want to leave his side. Nothing was more important to me than him feeling like he was not alone.
He will be fine. I know that. But he is our only baby right now, so all our energy is focused on him and we just pray that everything will progress "healthily".

Scott, I am so sorry to hear this! We had a dog named Yeti when I was growing up who lost an eye in a similar incident. Yeti had a great life and lived to be about 23. Hopefully Roscoe will have the same. What a tough little guy!
10 weeks agoI'm so sorry...this makes me so sad too. I pray too that he will be okay. He is such a sweet baby.
10 weeks agoOur little bichon had a reaction to one of her vaccines several years back. She got very sick and I thought we were gonna lose her. She recovered but developed an almost instant cataract in one of her eyes as a result and basically went completely blind in that eye. I have been amazed at how she has adapted. She has done fine these last few years. She is still active and happy as ever.
10 weeks agoThanks everyone. I updated the description a bit more.
11 weeks agoHe made it back from Boston just fine. Still many more days of meds and waiting for the eye to "Fall out". So gross.
