When it gets hot, the windows open up and some strange bugs assault our home. It's like Starship Troopers, minus the starship and the troopers.
"These bugs are just like us. Just as smart as we are. They want to study us. They want to know what makes us tick. They want to know our likes and dislikes. In short: they want to know about us... so they can kill us."

Man, I hate spiders. I can take just about anything else, but spiders? No thanks.
43 weeks agoNot sure it's a brown recluse though. Looks more like the deadly Californian Jumping Spider. Nice of you to let it live by flinging it off the deck but be warned, the CJS acts like a homing pigeon, always finding its way back home.
Anyway, have a great night! :)
I'm really freaked out by this huge spider I took out of the kitchen last night (see pics). Kristen found it up in the top corner inside a cabinet, and I think it is a giant man-eating brown recluse, though research suggests those dont live in CA. The house was uninhabited for two years before we moved in, so I think these things grew to unholy proportions and have developed deadly attacks.
43 weeks agoPretty sure this was a recluse after further investigation.
43 weeks agoholy crap, for real? aren't those things deadly?
43 weeks agoAnd I hope you smashed the frack out of it. I'm all for letting spiders live, circle of life, insect ecosystem and all that crap but kill the freaky ones!
43 weeks agoYeah, very dangerous, i cant find any other spider that looks like. I flung it off the deck in the front (I trapped it under a glass on a box of crackers, real professional style)... I killed a spider the night before outside and felt bad, now i wish I went full starship troopers on that thing.
43 weeks agoThat is one big bug! How bad are the mosquitoes in the East Bay in general? We never really had to worry about them in the city because it was so cold, but Thurston would get bites a few times a year.
45 weeks agonot too bad. but probably worse than San Francisco. Then again, you don't spend too many evenings outside relaxing in yard with a glass of wine enjoying the warm summer nights in the city, so it's hard to compare!
45 weeks agoUgh, those bugs creep me out, it's the long legs. Seriously bums me out. Been seeing way too many of those in our house this year.
45 weeks agothose big ones eat the bad Mosquitoes. They are good to have around. We leave them alone when they come into the house. We haven't named them yet, but they are kinda like pets.
45 weeks agoI don't know, that doesn't look like a mosquito hawk to me. We get lots of those too, and then find them flying all lame or dead all over the house, apparently not enough Mosquitos.
45 weeks agothis was four times the size of a mosquito hawk, this was like the mothership... or an alien scout....I let it outside, i didn't want to piss it off.
45 weeks agoWe need another scale to see just how big that blue train is!
45 weeks agoCome on, everybody knows how big Thomas is.
