Take a Hike to Quitman
Ten Skidmore young ladies arose about five o'clock last Thursday morning and, after making their toilet, they started a little before six o'clock to walk up the railroad track to Quitman. Two hours later, they arrived at the Quitman station, and going to the home of Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Wood they partook of a breakfast of biscuit, fried potatoes and cat-fish. The way those girls did eat would have put a set of harvest hands to shame. Well-filled platter after well-filled platter of cat-fish, fried to a turn, were dispatched before their hunger was appeased.
After breakfast, the girls took possession of the place and had a jolly good time until noon when they were again called to a table laden with good things and the appetites of the girls and the excellence of the meal were attested by the great amount of eatables that were consumed.
After dinner until time for the south-bound passenger, the girls again proceeded to enjoy themselves. Boating, bathing, kodaking and kindred sports were engaged in and when time came to go, and should anyone ever hint in the presence of any of them, that Mr. and Mrs. Wood are not royal entertainers, he will have serious trouble at once. The girls said they had 'the time of their lives.'
The party was composed of the Misses Mary, Cecil, Myrtle, and Susie Saunders, Hazel Gray, Ada Garnett, Susie and Mary Ashbrook, Bess Strickler, and Mrs. Mervyn Gray.
