The summer after my freshman year I worked 60 hour weeks with my dad. I bought a mountain bike with some of the money I earned. Nothing too fancy. Just something to get around campus.
When I brought the bike back to campus with me after the summer was over it only lasted a week. I had locked it up in front of my girlfriend's house. Her room mate came back in, grabbed something and then left again. A few moments later she came back in and said "hey Mike, I think your bike was stolen." I looked outside and sure enough, the tree I locked it to had been cut down.
That will teach me to lock a bike to a tree. Those criminals have no respect for nature.
