I'm finally reading A Princess of Mars, the first book in the John Carter Warlord of Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, of Tarzan fame. I've read all 11 other books in the series but the first because it was the one read to our fourth grade class by Mr. O, who always read books far from literature, resulting in us actually listening. The Warlord of Mars books, as the title suggests, are pulp formula sci-fi, but fun and easy to read on a bumpy commute. Plots consistently unfold with a beautiful but brave princess being kidnapped or lost and then kidnapped, or fleeing her home voluntarily and then getting kidnapped, only to be rescued by a gritty and fearless fighting man of Mars. It's almost comical how he keeps up the framework, but it's the fun and crazy imaginative scenes and scenarios that Burroughs puts in each book that make these so fun to read. After doing a quick curiosity search today, I discovered that the live action movie of this series is well on it's way to production and is being written by the guy who wrote Wall-E, who has been dreaming of making this his whole life. So excited, I've always loved this series and have always said it would make a great film franchise. Now let's hope they don't screw it up.

Looks like the movie version of this is picking up steam, they just cast the leads for John Carter and Dejah Thoris.

I lost the first book, found it, and finished it last week and am near completion of the second one again. These will make such great movies. Non stop action.
Nice work Steve! Thinking back on it, Mr. O was a trippy dude.
