It was day 1 of a trip I never thought I would actually take. The excitement level was off the charts. Taking a small plane out into the plains of Africa was so surreal, it was like traveling to another planet.
That first drive out we were wide eyed and could not believe what we were seeing, but then when we turned off the road and just started driving right up to the animals, we were blown away. It far exceeded our expectations and continued to each and every day after.
First day in the jungle and I was excited to encounter wild animals and also nervous that they can smell my blood as food for the evening. We just got off a super small plane (and yes, I was freaking out because I hate small planes). As we walked off the plane, my nerves got to me. We were out in the middle of no where and surrounded by animals. We immediately found our driver, drove to our camp, checked into our room, had lunch, and went on an afternoon game drive.
What an experience - we saw so many interesting animals and the scenery is breath-taking. I felt like I was having a dream and had to poke myself a few times!
Everyone says that an African safari is a must-do in your life, but you really don't realize what these words mean until you experience it yourself.

Man, they really all just live out there just like National Geographic says they do. I love the tree in the elephant butt photo, lots of beautiful trees actually.
