We decided to try out a newer addition to the Keller Family, Ad Hoc. It was also delicious, and much more casual. For 49$, you get a four course fixed menu that they change daily, so much more cost effective than FL :D. It would definitely be a place I would visit more often, if only it wasn't an hour away. Everything is served family style. And supposedly, if you are still hungry, you can ask for seconds. I chickened out though. But I was also very full, and probably did not need second servings. They are also very open to making things up on the fly. I told them that mike did not enjoy chocolate (the desert was a chocolate mousse orange thingy), and they made a delicious tarte tatin for him. Service was relaxed, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable (I asked about their sous vide potatoes, and they even told me the temperature and times used in the process).
We each had a glass of red wine to go with our main. I don't remember what Mike had, but I had an Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon, which I quite enjoyed. I don't remember the year.
Menu:
Mixed Green Salad with pencil asparagus, shaved sweet onions, yellow baby carrots, shaved fennel
icicle radishes, sunchoke chips and sherry vinaigrette. The sunchoke chips were awesome. And mike liked the asparagus in this salad too. He actually went back for more!
Midwestern Beef Flank Steak with celery root & braeburn apple slaw, brussels sprouts, tfl garden cavolo nero rabe and poached fingerling potatoes
Humboldt Fog cheese with minneola tangelo jam (they also gave us pomelo too. The other tables around us only got one. Maybe we scored the last pomelo jam :D MMMM)
Chocolate & Citrus Gateaux with whipped vanilla sweet cream (the gave us this amazing warm butterscotch caramel sauce to spoon on top. I practically drank mine)
Mike's special dessert: Tarte Tatin with butterscotch caramel sauce.
