One of the finest comic series ever created is being adapted for the silver screen. When I first heard about this project I was very dubious, certain it would be executed poorly and be a horrific mess and bastardization. But after seeing 300 and Sin City, and just recently Dark Knight, I am convinced that this can be done right as a movie. We'll see, I am certainly anticipating seeing it.
We will be heading over to the Metreon after work on Wednesday! Here's hoping it lives up to the hype!
I thought they did a great job at adapting a notoriously tricky property. Obviously there were going to have to be massive cuts to convert a 12 issue comic series into a 2hr 30min film, but it was done about as well as I think it could be done. There's a few issues I could pick at: Nite Owl and The Comedian were way too strong for normal humans, many of the action scenes seemed to be overdone just to say "hey you're still watching a comic book movie, don't forget", etc. But in general I was very pleased. Roll on the director's cut!
Cant wait to see the extended version!
I just finished the book, and am fully prepped for the movie. I don't normally read graphic novels, and it took some adjustment, but what a great story--I look forward to re-experiencing the scenes in full IMAX glory.

Was it too long? I heard it was like three hours...
77 weeks agoit was long, about 2hrs 45mins. The place was packed and remember joking to Trey that I hoped I didn't have to go to the bathroom.
77 weeks agoFor me it went by surprisingly fast and luckily for Trey and Stephen who were sitting by me, no emergencies.
I put on one of Austin's Huggie's night time pull up diapers before hand.
77 weeks agoI echo the not too long sentiment. There was so much source material to draw from I never really felt it dragging.
77 weeks agoI am familiar with the book so I can't give an uninitiated perspective but I was very impressed with the adaptation. They left out the right stuff and tweaked the right stuff to strike a good balance between capturing the essence of the original while still crafting (what I thought was) a good movie.
77 weeks agoI thought the movie was excellent, very true to the comic but with this crazy retro 80s vibe. I loved it. All the actors did a fantastic job with the characters and it was great casting.
77 weeks agoVery little was changed or left out of the book - it was worth it just for the first 15 minutes!
I loved how they set it in the 80's yet didn't fall into the obvious and overdone trappings of 80s parody. No crazy spoofs on fashion, hair or rubick's cubes. I've always thought it was about time someone just shot a movie set in the 80s straight up, and here it is, ironically in a comic book based film.
77 weeks agoSo I'm interested in the review on this movie from those of you that followed the comic. I didn't, so I don't know what all the hype is about, but the trailer looks kinda cool. Would I like it?
77 weeks agoI liked it a lot. A gorgeous film. The opening credits alone left me satisfied.
77 weeks agoI didn't read the comic either and I was engaged throughout the film. I think it combines the character development, moral questions and mystery of Sin City and Dark Knight with the polish and breathtaking visuals of 300. If all that sounds good to you, then you might enjoy Watchmen as much as I did.
