Imagine my surprise at dinner when Tim said - "Stop by the office tomorrow, I've got a Kindle waiting for you." And sure enough, he did! Such a incredible (and unexpected) gift and one that paid immediate dividends on my cross country flight home.

Matt and Vanessa bought me an iphone for Christmas and Kindle for my birthday - two things I probably would never have bought myself - and currently my two favorite things right now. As I blasted thru my first book, Twilight - do not even laugh out there - I am hooked. This Kindle is the newer version - it tells you where you are in the book via a little percentage bar at the bottom of the page, it can actually read the book to you in a male or female voice, and has a curser that defines each word if you so desire. Its dials and gizmos are also easier to see and to intuitively operate. It is an amazing, amazing tool. I sold one to the guy next to me on the plane yesterday - he couldn't figure out what I was staring at for hours. This is a great thing. I am one of those people who loves books - the feel, the history of a life of reading, the smell of the library etc.etc. And I love this thing!
33 weeks agoKelly has had a Kindle for a couple of months now -- at first I was dubious that it would really be that much of a step up (or even sideways) from regular books, but it has totally transformed her reading habits. Friends recommend books and she downloads them right there while she's talking to them. She absolutely loves it and reads a lot more than she used to.
38 weeks agoAmazon announcing the jumbo screen Kindle tomorrow. Man, tech cycles in a serious hurry.
45 weeks agoleavimg this comment on a kindle
52 weeks agoHere's the bottom line: I think I'm done with paper books. The Kindle is easier on my eyes, and I can read more pages at higher speed for longer periods as a result. I like the form factor, the battery life is great, and it's simple to operate. The ability to pick up books on the fly (and for cheap) as well as to have all my favorite blogs just a click away is the clincher.
52 weeks agoI spent two hours at a TGIF in the SF airport last night and it literally flew by, all because of the Kindle.
So for those keeping track, the essentials are: Iphone, Kindle, Macbook with a 3G card, and a Lumix LX3. That's really all you need!
And a good sharp axe.
52 weeks agotypical VB over the top enthusiastic review for the product YOU now own.
52 weeks agoSo, absolutely NO downsides? C'mon.
Downside is that I will be contributing the loss of jobs among lumberjacks and truck drivers. Also I will no longer have the strength workout that comes with backpack full of magazines and books on my frequent cross country trips.
52 weeks agoLook, I love it. I'm sure there are things that I will notice that could be improved but I'm not going to nitpick just to make you think I am "objective" or "hard hitting". This is a moment, not 60 Minutes or Consumer Reports.
So what's the latest on this? Still firmly on the bandwagon?
33 weeks agoGreat gift. So Vince, give us your review of this thing now that you've used it a bit. Interested in your likes/dislikes.

53 weeks agoThis moment just became reality - thanks to one Tim Mayhew. Between AC/DC, Punta Mita, and now this, putting moments in my future is really starting to pay off!
53 weeks agow/r/t/The Watchmen being available on Kindle - you can easily check by going to amazon.com, searching for the book, and checking for whether one of the formats available is a kindle ebook. If this is the book are you talking about (http://www.amazon.com/Watchmen-Alan-Moore/dp/0930289234)
54 weeks agothen you're out of luck; but there's always the "request this book on kindle" feature. I've yet to get a book on kindle that way , though
