It was almost dusk when I arrived in the nation's capital. After a long day of travel and with several important meetings coming up the next day, my normal course would be to head straight to the hotel to finish my preparation and get a good nights sleep.
But tonight, as I was driving in and seeing the Monuments slowly appear on the horizon, I felt a real twinge of excitement and curiosity. I haven't been here since I was a young child. And somehow, with all that is going on in our country and in the world, and knowing that Susan and Sol were here so recently for the Inauguration, I just couldn't pass them by.
So I looked for and finally found a parking space, and just started walking around, taking it all in. I ended up spending a couple of hours just walking and looking, and honestly feeling more connected to my government and my country than I have in a long, long time.
When the presidential helicopter rolled overhead on its way to a landing at the White House - I knew it was a moment to remember.
