ETA: The food was impeccably prepared and delicious. And the service was awesome and amazing. Our maitre d was really outstanding, and very good at making us feel comfortable. On 4 of the stated courses, we were given a choice of one or another. We managed to sample all the options between the two of us. Hopefully mike will post photos soon. They switched the silverware between every course to cater to the utensil needs of the next course. We were there for four hours. Of note, FL managed to prepare asparagus in a way that Mike really liked. And he hates asparagus. That alone is amazing. I think I may be forgetting some of the extras. And please forgive my brief and incomplete descriptions. There was much more going on on each plate. Trust me :D
I totally left my camera att home for this trip. Doh. I did bring my camera charger though- little good it did me.
Our courses:
Canape 1: Salmon tartare with creme fraiche and a sesame cornet
Canape 2: Gougeres with cheese sauce on the insides
1. Cauliflower "panna cotta" with sturgeon caviar
Bread 1: Brioche roll
2. Moulard duck foie gras torchon with brioche. They kept on bringing us fresh, warm brioche. And insisting that we use the new ones they brought.
3. Sauteed striped bass
4. A deconstructed unagi avocado roll
5. Butter poached lobster with lardons and spinach
Bread 2: Ciabatta, sour dough, multi grain
6. Veal tongue and potato gnocchi
7. Liberty Farms Pekin duck. Seriously. Not Peking duck. A joke I don't get? But damn it was good. Best dish of the night.
8. Corned veal tongue
9. Elysian Field Farms lamb. With ASPARAGUS!
Bread 3: More Bread??? Ridiculous. But I'll take some thank you.
10. Idiazabal raw milk goat cheese plate
11. Sour cherry mash with yogurt sorbet. Amazing.
12. Chocolate mousse with banana ice cream and curry
13. Citron parfait
Mignardises: Chocolate coated macadamia nuts, petit fours, salted butter caramel, pistachio, vanilla bean, I can't even remember ganache filled chocolates.
Lots of butter and bread punctuating our courses. Vermont salted butter and local unsalted Petaluma butter. In copious quantities.
They offered us tea and coffee, but we were so full we refused. And then they sent us home with some delicious stacks of shortbreads. My stomach was pretty happy.
Okay, try #2 since my first take got eaten: We're going to French Laundry! Yay! I've wanted to go for years! Yay! We got a lunch reservation! Yay! (which means we have the rest of the day to burn off our food :D)
For Jules's birthday this year I tried to get reservations at the French Laundry. They accept reservations up to two months early so I needed to check on January 7 to arrange something for her birthday on March 7. Unfortunately I was swamped at work and forgot until after hours. When I got home I checked on OpenTable to see if I could get something. No dice there. I called on the 8th only to get a message that the reservation office would be closed until the 20th. :(
Under pressure, I divulged my failure to Jules and through her amazing powers she was able to get a reservation for the day before her birthday. It's a lunch reservation, but it's something!

53 weeks agoIt was amazing :D There were many dishes that were incredibly well executed. I of course forgot my camera today of all days. But I did bring my camera charger. We took pictures with Mike's Iphone. Will post later about the experience. :D
53 weeks agoI am going to set up my trip-pod next to the table.....I will put a jacket on it of course.
52 weeks agoThey were pretty nice about cameras. I was taking pictures with my iPhone and someone else had a regular pocket sized camera. Another table was taking a lot of pictures with the flash on which was pretty annoying actually. But they only did it for like five minutes.
52 weeks agoThey require jackets so I did what any warm blooded Horn would do. Yesterday I went to Target and got a blazer.
53 weeks agodo you need a tie with that?
